Project 2
The Fusion of Manufactured Objects and Nature
This project was inspired by a trip to Japan. Wandering through the streets of Hachioji, I noticed a beautiful orange pumpkin in a plastic hamper seemingly delivered to the front door of someone's home. I was struck by the charming nature of the scene, which I captured in a photo.
Back in the US, the photo prompted me to seek out other instances in which nature and manufactured items abide in harmony. I have found examples in Japan, India, and my home state of South Carolina, in the US.
Where ever I go I am struck by the ubiquity of mass produced goods in a natural landscape. I seek to uncover the beauty in this juxtaposition, questioning whether harmony can emerge from the collision of nature and consumer culture.
